SCOPE OF JOB:
The Fleet Technician is an automotive repair specialist responsible for the diagnostics and repair of all vehicles and trailers within the Company’s fleet. The incumbent is also responsible for assisting with the repair and maintenance of all Company equipment and tools.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Diagnose and repair fleet vehicles and trailers.
- Aid in the manufacture of various steel products that are sold by the Company.
- Aid in all repairs where cutting, grinding, welding, or painting is involved.
- Maintain saws, welders, grinders, presses and all shop fabrication tools in the work area.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Mechanical knowledge including automotive, diesel, and electrical.
- Experience with mechanical repairs and vehicle diagnostics is a must.
- Ability to safely operate common hand and power tools, presses, saws, and diagnostic tools.
- Training in or experience with work zone equipment diagnostics and repair.
- Basic computer skills and abilities.
- Ability to follow directions and work with a team.
- Knowledge of safety principles and ability to operate with a safety-first mindset for own self as well as other team members.
- Ability to manage tasks and workload without immediate supervision.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment including forklifts, SkyTrak telehandlers, and skid steer loaders is preferred
- Ability to install, inspect, and repair truck-mounted attenuators (TMA) is preferred.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school degree or equivalent education/experience required.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in the traffic control industry preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years automotive and equipment repair knowledge/experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Heavy industrial work exerting up to 80 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move, transport, install, and/or remove objects, tools, heavy equipment, and/or steel components.
- Close visual acuity is required to perform activities such as visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation/inspection of machines using measurement devices; and/or assembly of fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes; general visual acuity to operate machines, equipment, and/or motor vehicles, perform mechanical or skilled trade tasks, and ensure the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
- Frequently subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions with no effective protection from the weather.
- Occasionally subject to hazards that may include a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to high heat, exposure to chemicals, and/or functioning in narrow aisles or passageways.
- Occasionally subject to vibration; exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.
- Occasionally subject to noise at a level that may require the employee to shout in order to be heard.
